What is roughcasting?
Roughcasting is a type of finish that is used on the exterior of buildings and consists of small pebbles and gravel mixed among similar material as well as concrete which acts as the bonding agent.
This roughcasting mixture (which in itself can be quite the ‘secret recipe’) is then used to coat the exterior walls of residential and commercial buildings across Glasgow. When it has set, the finished roughcasting can then be painted as an additional visual finish or left in its ‘raw’ natural state. The choice if yours and can really depend on what your neighbours and other homes on your street have done with their homes roughcasting.
Roughcasting should not be confused with pebble dashing.
While the basic ingredients for roughcasting may sound simple enough; as anyone who has tried to follow a specific cooking recipe will understand, it takes time, patience and practice to achieve the right finish that will not just hold, but last through the countless winters ahead (which in Glasgow can be anything from torrential rain to more torrential rain with added frost).
That is why, when it comes to roughcasting your homes outer walls, you should use a professional firm with a vast amount of experience in the field, a good reputation and a solid understand of the unique recipe that is required for strong and durable roughcasting on buildings across Glasgow.
Is there a skill to roughcasting?
Roughcasting can be looked it in a similar way to plastering. The roughcasting mixture needs to be consistent and thoroughly mixed. It needs to be applied to walls in an even finish with no area bulkier than others to prevent a rippled surface.
It is the little details and the attention to detail that leaves the a lasting impression and with Balmore Specialist Contracting, you can be sure that your property is in safe hands. For over 35 years, we have been working on roughcasting for bungalows, extensions, detached and semi detached homes and high rise flats. And in that time we have become masters in the art of roughcasting.
