When Spring begins across Glasgow, the weather has finally begun to turn after so many months of heavy rain, cold winds and whatever else has hit Scotland during Winter.
While we always advise our customers to have their gutter cleaning done in plenty of time before Christmas, there will still have been enough dead leaves, mud and other much that has accumulated over the months to require a spring gutter cleaning.
Glasgow as we all know is full of a lot of trees so when Autumn hits, the amount of leaves that fall is so much that come Spring, so much of the leaves have managed to make their way back into home owners gutters. But while it may now be Spring, there is still every chance for the last of the Winter winds to hit the city and cause some chaos.
So if you are looking for professional gutter cleaning then Balmore is here for you.
As a leading Roofer in Glasgow, we are experts in all areas of roofing from fittings to repairs, maintenance and cleaning.
Why is gutter cleaning important?
Your gutters have one job to do. To drain away the water that runs off from your roof. If a gutter system is blocked because of leaves, moss, dirt, dust or a birds nest (to name just some of the more obvious examples) then the water can’t drain away and instead build up. To begin with, this may just seem like an inconvenience but water has an uncanny ability to find the smallest of gaps in your home and cause the biggest of problems.
Water that floods over the side of a gutter can easily find its way into the gaps created by drill holes that hold the gutter in place. Rusting nails can give way over time and before you know it, you don’t have a gutter left. They can also find holes in the pointing of your homes brickwork and cause wet staining on the walls of your homes interior.
For over 35 years, we have been providing roofing services across Glasgow. And in that time we have seen a lot of different issues created on roofing because of gutter issues. For one of the most overlooked roofing maintenance services by so many home owners in Glasgow, it is also one of the ones that can cause the most damage.
We have seen floors collapse because the joists have rotten and given way (to be fair, that one was many years of gutter leaking). We have seen lead gutters on older historic buildings in the West End give way to the weight of biomass that had accumulated and fallen directly onto their car parked in the driveway. And we have even seen a complete chimney collapse because a lead gutter was leaking directly onto the sandstone underneath it. With no ventilation to help dry it out, the sandstone stonework eventually gave way and fell to the garden below (thankfully no one was hurt).
While these are obviously more severe examples, gutter cleaning is an important part of your homes maintenance, not just for your roof but for the building stonework as well.
